In the winter, your skin faces many enemies: lack of humidity in the air, cold air, icy winds, and sun exposure. All of these can really take a toll on your appearance, especially your skin. Many of our offices and homes are heated with constantly circulating hot, dry air, which is often the most damaging environmental factor to skin, as it actually saps our skin’s moisture. The harsh winter outside air also strips the skin of precious moisture and surface lipids, leaving it flaked and parched.
Time to protect and defend your skin against harsh winter elements! These are some the winter skincare tips we live by at Kitto Katto Skincare:
UV rays are just as harmful in the winter as they are in the summer
Don’t let overcast skies fool you, the sun’s damaging rays are still harmful to your skin. Make sure you are applying a quality sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day before leaving the house. It’s important to make SPF an integral part of your daily beauty routine. One of our favorite sunscreens is Elta Md’s Tinted SPF 44, perfect those who need sun protection, but also want a beautiful finish. Don’t forget to reapply your SPF every two hours if you are planning on being outdoors for an extended period of time.
It is to vital to keep skin moisturized and protected
We recommend adding an oil or a hydrating serum to your moisturizer or applying one over your moisturizer. We love layering Youth In Bloom Beauty Oil over our Moisture Silk Triple Antioxidant Defense Beauty Cream facial moisturizer. This combination really helps to keep our skin hydrated and glowing all winter.
Incorporate a free-radical fighting Vitamin-C serum
If you haven’t added a Vitamin-C serum to your skincare routine yet, Kitto Katto Skincare Brighten-C Serum or IS Clinical Pro Heal with vitamin-E are both excellent free-radical fighting products to try.
Change up your cleanser.
Switching your gel or foaming cleanser to a more hydrating cream based gentle cleanser for the winter months can help keep your skin more hydrated. Sanitas Milk and Honey Cleanser is a perfect option for cleansing your skin gently.
Get rid of dry winter skin.
Exfoliating with an enzyme mask or scrub weekly will help remove dry, flaky skin and allow for greater absorption of your skincare products. Our go-to exfoliators are Sanitas Lemon Cream Scrub and Sanitas Pumpkin Enzyme Mask.
Looking for a professional hydrating winter skincare treatment?
Kitto Katto Skincare offers microdermabrasion and dermaplane treatments which allow for essential exfoliation and can improve the overall condition and appearance of the skin. Winter is a great time to ask for a hydrating sheet mask as an add-on to your next treatment. Two of our signature treatments, Youth In Bloom Facial and our Brighten-C Facial are 60 minute, relaxing facials, which include: facial cleansing, exfoliation with steam, relaxing massage of the head, neck, and shoulder, hydrating finishing mask, and application of moisturizer and SPF. Monthly moisturizing facial treatments can be the perfect way to add some TLC to your winter skincare routine.
