Chemical Peel

aftercare & what to expect

Fire & Ice, Beta and Lactic Peel

Aftercare Instructions

  • Your skin might feel sensitive, similar to a mild sunburn. This is normal. Your skin may become tight, dry and may even peel or flake slightly.

  • You may experience rough texture or “rug burn” in certain areas. These areas must be kept moist with an ointment like Aquaphor or Sanitas Topical C in order to heal faster.

  • After your peel you may experience a small break-out which should clear-up quickly.

  • A mild moisturizer is your single most important tool for the next few days. Be consistent and be generous—it will help your skin recover more quickly.

  • If you are prone to getting cold sores, be sure to take your antiviral medication prior to appointment.

EVENING AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

  • Avoid any physical activity that will cause excessive perspiration.

  • Use a mild/gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Avoid all products with “active” ingredients such as Retinol, Retin A, AHA’s (glycolic, lactic), Salicylic Acid, and Hydroquinone.

DAYS ONE-THREE

  • Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer and SPF.

  • Make up can be worn.

  • Avoid Vitamin C, Retinol, Retin A, AHA’s (glycolic, lactic), Salicylic.

  • You can use enzyme mask or gentle exfoliator in the shower.

General Instructions for all Peels

1. Do not pick any loose skin, scarring could result. If you have any pieces of loose or dangling skin, trim them with small scissors.

2. Keep the skin as moist as possible. Use Aquaphor for any “hot spots”.

3. Do not use any kind of exfoliation until after the skin has finished peeling. Wash the face only with your hands, avoid scrubbing with a washcloth.

4. If excessive soreness or irritation occurs, a prescription steroid may be used short term.

5. Avoid products containing acids as they are too irritating and may cause the skin to be too sensitive and red. You may resume lotions containing acids (AHA’s, Vitamin C or Retin-A) a week or more after peel.
